The Clinic of HOPE was first founded in the year 2000 in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur (KL). It is a free clinic that offers free medication and consultation to the underprivileged every Tuesday, Thursday and 2nd and 4th Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm. I first started to join the clinic after I came back from my volunteer work in India when I stumbled upon the HOPE Worldwide website. I knew right then working at a free clinic would provide a great opportunity for me to learn and experience new things that are related to medicine. Not only that, I would also be able to practice what I have learned in medical school. I am so grateful to have met Dr Peter, a young doctor that is currently working in a hospital in Pahang and Mona, a veteran nurse that has worked in United Kingdom, Singapore and Malaysia whom both are so kind and patient in mentoring and teaching me on how to perform various examination skills as well as on medical drugs.
In the clinic, I was tasked by Dr Peter to measure the blood glucose levels and blood pressure of the patients that came to meet him for a consultation. Dr Peter also was always willing to share his experience and knowledge with me on different diseases or conditions, his life as a medical doctor and other things. I also got the chance to prepare medicines prescribed by Dr Peter to his patients under the supervision of Mona.
