Tamadun Islam dan Tamadun Asia (TITAS)

Tamadun Islam dan Tamadun Asia (TITAS) is a study on the Islamic civilisation and other Asian civilisations and their impact on the history of Malaysia. Basically, there three main civilisations that are studied in this subject which are the Islamic civilisation, the Chinese civilisation and lastly the Indian civilisation. Under these three main topics, we are introduced to different components that make up the civilisation that includes religion, cultures, politics, philosophy and many more. Although I have been learning about the Islam and its glorious civilisation through formal religious school, it is truly refreshing to be able to learn and discover the civilisation of Islam from different perspectives, in which in this case from a secular perspective. And I also got the chance to learn about other civilisations in detail which is really interesting.

One of the course project that we are required to complete was to study the impact of a civilisation on the history of Malaysia. My group which consists of Ira Marlina, Atikhah, Aqrabin Shah, Hanani and Teh E-Yang have chosen a slightly different approach in tackling the topic. We have decided to investigate the influence of other foreign cultures on the development of Malaysian traditional food like Laksa and Nasi Briyani. We have decided to take a trip to Southern states of Malaysia which

are the Negeri Sembilan, Malacca and Johor to sample different popular delicacies and carry out research on the food history.

It was an amazing and fruitful trip that saw us interacting with the locals as we visited cities and villages in our quest to discover new food. We also gained a lot of information from the locals on the history of food and the recipes that have been developed as a result of centuries of cultural infusion and assimilation by different cultures like Malays, Chinese, Indians, Indonesians and even Portuguese.
