Summit Toastmasters Club
The Toastmasters Club is an international non-profit organization that was first founded in 1924 that aims to provide a platform for participants to hone their speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressure atmosphere. Upon joining the organization, participants are given a special manual known as Competent Communication manual that contains 10 different speaking tasks or assignments to instill a basic foundation in public speaking.
There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting but instead, members evaluate one another's presentations in which style of presentation, grammar and other things are taken into account. There is also an Ah-counter in which a member of the meeting is assigned to count each and every 'Lah', 'urrmm' and 'eh' that were used by any member during the meeting.
I have joined the Toastmasters club because I wanted to improve my speaking skills and to gain confidence in public speaking which could be very intimidating at most of the time. And being in the Toastmasters club where members are trained to encouraged and motivate one another I believe, now I have gained the confidence and the enjoyment of being in front of an audience to speak. And I believe that Toastmasters Club has prepared me well to become at least a decent public speaker who is not afraid to share a view or two in front of a group of people.
